Summary
Paediatric ward is located between male surgical ward and eye unit, in front of the X-Ray department. It is has two entrances.
About the department
It is a thirteen bedded ward with nine coat beds. The ward is divided into two, that is the right side where we admit children with medical conditions and the left side were we admit children with surgical conditions.
Staff
The ward is run by 1 midwife, 1 registered general nurse, 3 primary care nurses, 1 nurse aide and 1 general hand. (Student Nurses are also attached to the department as per their training schedule. Nurses in the department works as a team and duties are allocated according to capabilities. Routine duties includes cleaning, checking vital signs, drug administration, patient feeding, wound care and health education to care givers. Doctors come for the round three times a week, which is Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They are also called in to attend to emergencies and other new cases which may need to be attended to.
For who
The ward operates 24 hours a day with three shifts per day. First shift starts at -730 hrs to 1600 hrs, second shift starts at 1300 hrs to 2000hrs and the third shift starts at 2000hrs to 0800 hrs the following morning. Paediatric ward caters for children up to 12 years. It accommodates children with their parents for psychological support.
