Summary
Officially opened by Hounerable Dr. D. Parirenyatwa in 2002. Apart from delivery it offers post natal care to both mother and baby. Normal deliveries with no problems stay for 3 days and those with problems stay longer than 3 days Caesarean Section stay for a minimum of 7 days. We receive transfers in and also transfer out mothers and babies for specialist care.
About the department
It is located north east of the matron’s office. Adjacent to FCH department, parallel to Operating Department. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Staff
The staff consists of 10 Midwives, 4 Nurse aides and 1 General hand. The staff uses the following equipment: 1 USS machine, 1 baby Resuscitation machine 1, Incubator, 2 Radiant warmers, 2 Phototherapy machines and 1 CTa.
For who
Counselling. Mothers and their families Health education is given on, Family planning, Follow up of transferred out mothers and babies. Feedback to institutions of transferred in mothers. The capacity of the beds is 26 in total: 2 Labour ward, 4 Early labour, 6 Post natal, 5 ANC, 4 Kangaroo, 4 Surgical, 1 Prem ward.
